Find four different examples of imagery. The image can be of a place, a person, or people.

2. Sample Imagery and Commentary
In those days – 1941 – there was no smog around Long Beach. The water was clean, the sky a sharp Sunday blue, with all the engines of that white sardine fleet puttering up into it, and lot of yelling, especially around Papa’s boat. (Page 3)
The image emphasizes the beauty of the day. There is no dirt in the air or in the water, just people doing their job.
The reader knows by the date that World War II had started and should be aware of the importance of December and These details create suspense.
This image is in contrast to the chaos that is about to break out in the community.
