2. Engagement System In SSE, mid Autumn Term, for all SSE Part 1 modules:
Each student assessed: engaging or not
‘engaging’ defined by module convenor
Indicates active participation not attendance
Ideally demonstrating learning
If available, a mark is generated
Information collated across modules
Sorted by Tutor
Tutees invited to meet Tutor
This is the required second meeting in Autumn term

3. Tutor Meeting
Tutor can see for each student Each SSE module – tutee engaging/not – possibly mark also At meeting tutor can Praise student where doing well Discuss action plan for other modules Attend more Maths tutorials/Maths Support Centre Visit Study Skills; Prepare for lectures more; etc Students report response on Survey in Bb Used as ‘monitoring point’

4. In 11-11-8 For next session the plan is:
‘engagement’ to be assessed in time for ‘Flexi Learning Week’
Earlier than in previous years (this year slipped to week 9)
Provide earlier feedback
Tutor meeting timetabled in that week
Then meeting at start of Spring term can build on it

5. Experience
In the past, this system has had positive effect When first ran, those not engaging in many modules failed Since Action Plan, some been turned round Ensures have feedback in Autumn term Hopefully even better when is earlier in term Important, though, to follow up on non engagers Is consistent with reforms to PT system emphasising Academic and Pastoral aspects
