1. Lunar Eclipse B. Lunar Eclipses occur about 2-3 times a year, and last up to 4 hours.

1. Lunar Eclipse D. Umbra – During a lunar eclipse, it is the region of the shadow where the Earth blocks all direct sunlight from reaching the Moon. E. Penumbra- During a lunar eclipse, it is the region of the shadow where the Earth blocks part but not all of the Sun's rays from reaching the Moon.

2. Solar Eclipse A. The Moon moves between Earth and Sun. The Moon casts a shadow on part of the Earth.

2. Solar Eclipse B. Total solar eclipses are rare – much more rare than lunar eclipses. Solar eclipses occur only once every 360 years from one location!

3. The Tides A. The tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the Moon on Earth.

3. The Tides B. High Tide 1. The water will travel farther inland 2. High tide occurs on the side of the Earth that is facing the Moon and on the opposite side of the Earth facing away from the Moon. 3. Occurs every 12 hours and 25.5 minutes

3. The Tides 1. The water will not travel far inland.
C. Low Tide 1. The water will not travel far inland. 2. Low tide occurs on the sides of the Earth perpendicular to the Moon.
