1 An Overview of the Post-Graduate Education and Training Program

2 Mission Founded in 1996, the K.C. Center is a 501C3 organization dedicated to: accurately representing, applying and expanding Bowen family system theory leading to a more scientific understanding of human behavior applying Bowen family systems theory to personal and professional lives assisting in effectively managing the challenges faced individually, within families, organizations, & communities The mission is met through providing programs, education and training; consultation; & conferences. Being an educational not-for-profit organization is a unique factor of the KC Center.

3 The Post Graduate Training Program
An all day training is provided the third Friday of each month, Sept-May; trainees may attend in person or through video-conferencing A nationally known Bowen theorist or KC Center faculty speaks in the a.m. Dr. Michael Kerr, Director of the Bowen Theory Academy presents live, on theoretical and clinical topics, through video-conferencing 12:30 -2:00 Group trainee consultation is provided 2:15-4:00 Trainees receive individual consultation September-May and June-August when enrolling in the following academic year. CEU’s are awarded for each training day. Trainees receive a reduced rate to attend the spring and a summer conference are held annually with national keynote speakers.

4 Objectives of the Post Graduate Training Program
Assists individuals in the study and understanding of Bowen family systems theory Encourages the practice of systems thinking Provides opportunities to apply theory in one’s personal and professional lives Increases self-awareness and more mature, thoughtful functioning that has an eye to the long-term best interest of self as well as that of the family and/or organization

5 The Trainee Trainees come from many professional backgrounds: clergy, education, social work, medicine, psychology, psychiatry, etc. To become a trainee, one must have a Master’s degree from an accredited institution. Some familiarity with Bowen Theory is preferred.

6 Trainee Responsibilities
Participate in lecture discussions Practice “thinking” systems Complete and discuss reading assignments Consider facts and emotional process of one’s own family Prepare for group and individual consultation Apply theory to family, clinical, and work problems Prepare an end of year presentation and paper

7 The Application Process
The applicant has reviewed KC Center information and is familiar with the program. The first step is to complete the contact form on the KC Center website, expressing interest. A staff member contacts inquiring individuals to respond to questions and further discuss the program as needed. An application is sent to qualified applicants. Applicant returns application form with an administrative fee of $50.00. An interview is scheduled (face to face or through a video conference). Applicant is contacted regarding acceptance.
