15 Assessment, Recording and Reporting
Why do we assess? Assessments enable teachers to teach more effectively; they help us to understand what students know and what they don’t yet know. What is the reporting system? Four reports per year; paper copy to students, electronic copies to parents via Parentmail. Reports show academic progress and attitudes towards learning (‘Growth Mindset’). If a reporting window falls near a Parents’ Evening, please come in to collect the report by hand.

16 Assessment, Recording and Reporting
How do we assess? Summatively – formal tests, testing a large domain of knowledge, skills and understanding. These assessments are completed in formal conditions. These are graded and compared to your child’s targets to show progress. Assessment Point (Testing window) – on the school calendar Start dateEnd date AP1 4/11/19  15/11/19 AP2 20/1/20  31/1/20 AP3 20/4/20  30/4/20 AP4 (End of Year Tests) 22/6/20  3/7/20

17 Assessment, Recording and Reporting
How do we assess? Formatively – in class mini-tests, questions, quizzes and more extended pieces of writing and performance, typically every three weeks. These help teachers to understand student misconceptions and plan the best possible work for them. These are marked with comments and suggestions of how to improve, which students respond to.

18 Assessment, Recording and Reporting
How do you decide what target my child should have? We use the average KS2 scaled score of English reading and Maths to set a starting point. Each student is placed on one of eight pathways. This is reviewed annually.

20 Assessment, Recording and Reporting
What is ‘Growth Mindset’? Reports will also show a Growth Mindset grade A – E for your child, taking into account the following: their ability to demonstrate resilience, maintain a positive attitude, show enjoyment, interest and effort; their ability to work towards successful outcomes, reflect, write and improve work, show respect for themselves and others; and their ability to work independently in lessons and at home.

21 Assessment, Recording and Reporting
Summer Holiday Homework booklets – these are not quick pieces of work. Take the appropriate time over them, support your child as best you can. Please submit all work done to your child’s Form Tutor by the end of the first week back (Friday September 6th).
