The abolitionist movement affected sectionalism by increasing tension between the north (anti-slavery) and the south (pro- slavery)

4. The Underground Railroad in New York
We don’t know for sure where all of the Underground RR stations are because it was dangerous to help and hide runaway slaves. The locations were kept secret.

6. 1. Why did some abolitionists join the women’s rights movement also?
Some abolitionists also joined the women’s rights movement because they did not have full social and political rights themselves!

7. 2. Where and when was the first women’s rights convention held?
The first women’s rights convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848

8. 3. How did the Declaration of Sentiments differ from the Declaration of Independence?
The Declaration of Sentiments was different from the Dec of Indep. because it began “we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men and women are created equal.”

Northerners were against slavery and wanted a strong federal government.
Southerners were in favor of slavery and wanted state governments to have more power than the federal government.

Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999 to ensure the nation was given the chance to publicly show their appreciation for troops past and present.
