2 Norval Morrisseau (1932 – 2007) Ojibway Artist
Born at Sandy Point Lake Reserve Raised by grandparents taught him traditional Ojibway customs, values and beliefs

3 Eastern Woodlands Art Known as the Picasso of the North Wanted to draw the traditional stories of his people ‘The spirit comes through you. It is a very creative force, you see. You could be a singer, you could be a writer, you could be a painter, you could be anything if you allow the spirit to flow.’

When he was 19 years old he became very sick a medicine woman performed a ceremony and renamed him Copper Thunderbird.

Spirit animal with a great meaning to the aboriginal people Known for wisdom, knowledge and messengers A power animal (have the ability to see what is hidden to most) Thought to bring inspiration and guidance necessary to deeply explore the unknown and the magic of life

X-ray painting is the ability to see inside the animal its organs, heart, energy etc. Note the lines that divide the owl’s body, wings and even the ears (remember X-ray painting?)
