My Migrant story CAT Year 9 Humanities
2
Learning intention Success criteria
Research your migrant story and continue working towards the completion of your assignment Success criteria Fully understand the requirements of the task Create a clear plan of what you will be doing last few days before it is due
3
‘Checklist’ for MMS – must haves
Some sort of ‘physical’ presentation – suitcase, box etc. something which can hold other objects Annotations for objects, photos, documents – explain what your artifacts are and why they are important to your presentation Statement of intentions – explain how you went about completing the task, why you made the decisions you did. SOI does not need to be in the format given, you can create your own in short paragraphs if you feel something is not covered by those questions Bibliography for sources you used – important so we can see where you found your information/assess its reliability
4
Checklist continued – things you may like to produce
Some sort of interview/transcript if possible – adds depth to presentation Alternative ways of presenting written information – PowerPoint or other electronic means or a book/journal style presentation Something to draw people in – pictures/poster will make your presentation more visually appealing and tell your story Video – interesting and engaging way of presenting your findings, may even show interviews with family
5
Alternative task WW1 pre-knowledge test – some questions to gauge what you know about the First World War at this stage Not expecting you to understand everything about the war at this stage, just as much as you know now This will be our topic once we come back from the Easter break Avoid using your textbook or the internet to answer questions, just try to the best of your ability I will collect this at the end of the class
6
Research time Work quietly on the task for the next 20 minutes
Ask any questions that you need to After 20 minutes we will come back together and have a discussion about what some of you have done so far Be prepared to be called on After this, work quietly for most of the remainder of the lesson Give students time to think before questioning, remind them 5 minutes before the ‘break’. Try to listen to a few different students, cold call if necessary
7
Reflection By this stage you should feel comfortable about the task and should have a plan about how you will complete it in the next few days Any interesting stories to share? Did anything surprise you about your family or was it all as expected? Task is due next Wednesday at the end of class Extensions may be considered – need to discuss with both Mr. Day and Mr. Hubble
