1 Wave Behavior

2 Behavior 1: Superposition~ 2 or more waves adding together to form a resultant wave. (Waves will interfere with each other) Constructive Interference ~ waves add together and their resultant amplitude increases Destructive Interference ~ waves add together and their amplitudes cancel each other.

3 Constructive Interference

4 Destructive Interference

5 Examples: Colors

6 Examples: Ripples

7 Examples: Ducks ?

8 Behavior 2: Reflections
Reflection on a fixed end: reflected wave is opposite (upside down) Reflection on a free end: reflected wave is on the same side demos

9 Fixed End

10 Free End

11 Behavior 3: Diffraction ~ waves will bend when they hit a barrier

12 Example: Break wall

13 Example: CD’s

14 Head light with no diffraction
Example: Eyes Head light with no diffraction

15 Diffraction effect caused by pupil
Example: Eyes Diffraction effect caused by pupil

16 Diffraction effect caused by eyelashes
Example: Eyes Diffraction effect caused by eyelashes

17 Diffraction effect caused by pupil and eyelashes
Example: Eyes Diffraction effect caused by pupil and eyelashes

18 Diffraction effect caused by pupil and eyelashes and fog
