Definition-operations management Area of production concerned with the production of goods and services Involves the responsibility that business operations are effective and efficient. Production management-responsible for realising the visions of the company and the directions within the constraints of technical possibility.

1.Working Conditions Job Accidents Job related injury or illness Exposure to chemicals and physical hazards Collapse of a mine and refining explosion Hearing loss due to noise and Nerve damage due to repetitive motions

Health and Safety Definition Safety encompass all workplace hazards like Electrical shocks,burns,broken bones etc Results from events involving industrial equipment or the physical environment of the workplace. Health hazards-factors in the work place that causes illness Other conditions that develop over a lifetime of exposure

Silicosis (stone cutters) Caisson disease (drivers) Skin cancer (chemical exposure) Radiation

Product safety and Quality
Duty to provide consumers with a product that live up to those claims that the firm made about the product. Product safety-degree of risk associated with using a product. Provide a product whose use involves no greater risks than those the seller expressly communicates to the buyer.

Maintainability-ease with which it can be repaired.
Express warranty Availability of parts Service life-period of time the product will function effectively. Subjects to the amount of wear and tear to which one subjects the product. Explicit guarantee. Reliability-probability that a consumer is led to expect that it will function properly

2.Accepting Gifts May or may not be ethical Value of the gift? Purpose of the gift? Circumstances under which it was given. Accepted business practice in the area? Company’s policy? Law?

3.Cultural Environment Made up of institutions and forces that affect a society’s basic values, perceptions, behaviour and preferences. People grow up in a particular society that shape their basic beliefs and values.

Hearing Damages Acoustics is usually associated with positive sounds like music and speech communication. Acoustics have a negative side which becomes obvious when sound turns into noise. Hazards are Everywhere Workplaces are full of hazards. Our first aim is always to eliminate the hazards at the source. Inherent safety principles and good engineering practices.

Vibration and shock Affect People’s Life
Nature of dynamic forces on work. Its scope include the general areas of mechanical vibration and shock pertaining to: Terminology and nomenclature Actuators Sensors and associated signal analysis instrumentation. Measurement and evaluation to human exposure.
