What Is an honor code? How do we Maintain Academic Integrity in Advanced classes at THS?

Academic Honor Code You and your parents will read and sign one at the beginning of the year. Your are responsible for following its policies, even if you choose not to read it! A broad document that doesn’t list every specific instance of academic dishonesty because such actions can take many forms.

Specific Examples of Academic Dishonesty Include (but are not limited to):
Giving or getting an unfair advantage Exchanging old classwork/projects/tests with another person Submitting another student’s work as your own Sharing questions and/or answers from a test Looking at someone else’s paper

More Examples…. Copying someone’s answers
Using cheat sheets in whatever form that may take Plagiarism – no credit given to sources used, copying/pasting information from the internet Writing a paper for someone, regardless if money is exchanged Helping anyone else commit academic dishonesty

More examples: Having an electronic device at any point before, during, or after an assessment Working in a group on an individual assignment (If you’re not sure ASK!) Academic dishonesty involves ALL parties involved.

Actions Required When addressing Academic Dishonesty
If any academic dishonesty is perceived to have taken place in a class, the teacher and/or student(s) must report the incident to the AP or IB Coordinator. The AP or IB Coordinator will contact the parents of the student(s) involved to set up an Academic Honor Board. The student(s) and his/her parent/guardian are required to attend the Academic Honor Board!

What is an Honor Board? An Academic Honor Board is made up of the following members: The student and his/her parents The AP or IB Coordinator The student’s teacher for the course under investigation 2 Advanced Academic teachers who are not affiliated with the incident under investigation An Academic Honor Board is a meeting designed to provide the student, his/her parents, and his/her teacher with a non-biased way to identify potential academic dishonesty as well as reinforce the expectations of Temple ISD’s Advanced Academic Program.

What is the Purpose of an Honor Board?
Remove any potential bias for/against the student(s) and teacher(s) involved in the incident Identify incidents of academic dishonesty and apply necessary educational and/or behavioral corrections Provide the student(s) and teacher(s) involved with an opportunity to explain the incident under investigation and identify any points of misunderstanding for the committee Provide an opportunity to offer additional clarification or information to assist students as they progress in Advanced Academic Program
