Diamonds are considered by many to be one of the most precious stones in the world
68% of the world’s diamonds come from Africa
Many diamonds are illegally smuggled out of Africa
and are being used to finance wars & conflicts in Africa
These are known as conflict diamonds

4. Many nations have banned the sale of conflict diamonds
The UN started the Kimberly Process, which is supposed to determine the origin of all diamonds and place a small stamp inside the diamond
Conflict minerals, used in cell pones are starting to replace conflict diamonds.
