2. Write “Peer Edited By:_______”, at the top of your partner’s paper, filling in the blank with your name.

3. Circle the thesis.
The thesis is the sentence in the intro that best answers the question from the prompt: “What condition must people meet to encounter each other spirit to spirit?” Write one word describing the condition in the margin next to the thesis. Draw a box around it.
If no sentence does this, write “Needs thesis”

4. Write the boxed word next to every moment in the essay that engages with that concept. Then, put a happy face next to the word you wrote. 

5. Find two colors of pen or pencil
Find two colors of pen or pencil. Use one to draw a line in the margin all the way down your partner’s treatment of his or her chosen primary scene. Use the other to draw lines in the margin next to secondary scenes. The line representing the chosen scene should be as long or longer than the other line.

6. Write the letter ‘A’ next to any moment in the essay that closely analyzes specific words, images or moods. You are looking for moments that sound like the analysis we learned to do with poems.

7. Write the letter ‘S’ next to every sentence in the essay that summarizes plot events.
Ex.: “After the conversation with Rochester, Jane runs away from Thornfield and ends up hungry and alone.”
There should be enough summary to prevent a reader from becoming lost.

8. Read the entire essay, looking for anything that sounds confusing or awkward. If you can fix a problem you find, fix it. Otherwise, just mark it ‘Awk’ for “awkward”. Mark run-on sentences ‘RO.’
