Young Professionals Workshop
2
Workshop will be divided into 3 segments:
Is there a role for WMAA in facilitating a mentoring program for young professionals? If so, what form would it take? Is there an argument for mandatory qualifications in the waste industry? If so, what form would they take? Why are the corporates finding it difficult to find appropriately skilled people to fill various job roles? Is there enough knowledge about the roles and the skills required? What can we do about it?
4
It appears that difficulty finding staff is experienced across the board, but particularly in government and consulting sectors. We don’t have data as to why difficulties are being experienced, can you think of any?
5
Graduate positions are most prominent in industry roles.
The options for graduates getting into government/community roles is more limited. There appears to be an aging resource base in local government, which may be an opportunity for enabling mentoring relationships.
6
When you look at the results showing the sectors are finding difficulty recruiting qualified staff and this slide tends to conflict with this, why do you think this short duration is perceived as difficult?
7
In the previous graph, the industry sector had the highest number of staff members in the graduate category. And yet they have the least developed formal support arrangements.
