Modern Day Anti Slavery Awareness
St Oswald’s Collective worship team Friday 28th June 2019
2
Does anyone know what slavery is?
The definition for slavery is “a condition of having to work very hard without proper remuneration or appreciation”
3
Did you know there are 20-30 million slaves in the world today?
Some are adults and some are children- you might see them working in industries such as Nail Bars, fast food places, car washes, possibly moving drugs and selling them to different people.
5
Most people are trafficked/ brought in to slavery into the UK from overseas,
The most common countries of origin are Albania, Vietnam, Nigeria, Romania and Poland. Most commonly people are trafficked into forced labour in industries such as agriculture, construction, hospitality, manufacturing and car washes. Many people, again mostly women and girls, also end up in domestic slavery. Others, particularly children, are forced into crime such as cannabis production, petty theft or begging
6
Criminal gangs make 32 billion dollars From the slave trade.
We want to raise awareness of this. At St Oswald’s we want everyone to live freely. No one should be a slave. We have a slogan S.A.S Stand Against Slavery

In Britain there are slaves
Young girls and boys are brought to Britain to work in shops, nail bars, as servants in houses. They do not get any money, their ‘owner’ takes their money. In other countries there is slavery in carpet weaving, mining and ship breaking."
8
In the Bible it says; Freedom is what we have Christ has set us free, stand then as free people and do not allow yourselves to become slaves again’ Galatians 5.1 (New Testament)

Now it is time for a short reflection.
