Feudalism... Was the dominant social system in medieval Europe. Feudalism took the place of a strong centralized government. Was a system of government in which power was based on land ownership (fiefs) that was tied to military service Provided a system of local defense. In theory, was a pyramid. The upper three classes held all the power, and the bottom class had few rights.

Station Pyramid Activity
There are 5 stations around the room. Each station represents one of the classes in the Feudal society pyramid. Directions: -At each station, your group will write on the station piece of paper anything they know about that topic. For example: One station is “King”. You will write down anything you know about Kings. What do they do? Who are they? Etc. -After 2 minutes, your group will go to the next station. Repeat.

Knights & Vassals Vassals: Lesser nobleman that paid taxes on land and pledged military service to lord Knights: Guarded their lord’s castle and fought for him

Travel to sell goods and items Farmers: Prepared land for harvesting Craftsmen: Skilled workers that made everyday items

Peasants & Serfs Peasants: Worked the land and were considered “free”
Worked the land but were more like slaves. Owned nothing, and gave everything they produced to their lord
