Security staff duty overview
Security staff duty overview* Security staff members are the “eyes and ears” of Housing between 9pm – 6am Check for, and document, unsecure and/or propped doors. Secure said doors.** Check for, and document, any facilities issues i.e. busted water lines/pipes, exterior light outages, malfunctioning door locks etc. Check in with community desk staff on a routine basis. (Security staff members are permitted to relieve desk staff for restroom breaks as needed.) Confront, and document, all students and guests in public areas who are engaged in actions the staff member believes to be in violation of the law, residence hall or university policies. Security staff members are expected to contact the RA/CA on duty, either directly or through the desk staff, when students and/or guests are acting in violation of policy. Once an RA/CA is on scene, the Security staff member(s) will give an overview of what they witnessed prior to the arrival of the RA/CA and hand control of the situation over to them. * #1 Priority is the safety of residents, staff & guests. The security of residence halls. ** Clery Act: Jeanne Clery- sexually assaulted and murdered in her residence hall room by another student, that she didn’t know, who entered through a propped door.
