Copolymerization of Carbon Dioxide with Cyclic Ketene Acetals

The goal of this project is to explore possible new coupling reactions of carbon dioxide with copolymerizable organic monomers for the production of useful macromolecular materials. Shown below under our current investigation is the proposed alternating ring-opening copolymerizations of carbon dioxide with cyclic ketene acetals for the possible synthesis of biomedically important aliphatic polyesters, poly(ester-amide)s, and poly(ester-carbodiimide)s.
