Administration of Elections
Most election law in the US is State law. Congress has the ability to set times, and ect. for elections. Elections are normally held on the first Tuesday following the first Monday in November. Absentee voting is available for people in special circumstances. The coattail effect can help lesser candidates in the same party.

Precincts and Polling Places
A precinct is a voting district. A polling place is the actual place you vote.

Casting the Ballot All ballots are secret ballots.
The Australian Ballot is what is still most widely used today. The office-group ballot groups the names of the people running for each office together. A party-column ballot groups the names according to party.

Voting Machines and Innovations
Voting machines are used in half of all places. EDP techniques are used to count punch-card ballots. Some elections use vote-by-mail method. Online voting is a method of the future.
