FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people’s interest and participation in science and technology. FIRST was founded by Dean Kamen, who is a prolific inventor, entrepreneur, and tireless advocate for science and technology. Mission To inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting Mentor – based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-, communication, and leadership. First

FIRST “FIRST is more than robots. The robots are a vehicle for students to learn important life skills. Kids often come in not knowing what to expect – of the program nor of themselves. They leave, even after the first season, with a vision, with confidence, and with a sense that they can create their own future.” - Dean Kamen

“In FIRST STRONGHOLD, two Alliances are on the Quest to breach their opponents’ fortifications, weaken their tower with boulders, and capture the opposing tower. Robots score points by breaching opponents’ defenses and scoring boulders through goals in the opposing tower. During the final seconds of the match, robots may surround and scale the opposing tower ( Frc stronghold

“In the beginning, there was a design
“In the beginning, there was a design. The design turned into a model, and the model turned into a robot.” -Co-Captain Sarah Pepper In the beginning On January 9, we had 6 weeks to build a robot that could breach their opponents’ fortifications, weaken their tower with boulders, and capture the opposing tower.

Dynetics Classes From the East Limestone High School Robotics Team, we would like to thank Dynetics for the series of robotics workshops! “Teamwork makes the dream work!” -Ms. Dawn Martin “I was the star and they were the film crew.” - Media Mariam Villamonte

Design process It took us awhile to find a design we all liked and agree with, but when that design came to us we immediately went straight to work. “We wanted an angle on the front to help us go over obstacles.” - Alex Mwaura

Building process “Working on the robot was a fun experience. You get to see all the ideas become a reality.” - Jerod Kimbro During the building process, our Sub-Teams were working hard to modify and program the robot and help build an arm to help breach the opponents’ defenses.

Our robot “Twizzler” Her name is “Twizzler”
Our Captain and Co-Captain with the finished robot. Her name is “Twizzler” “Twizzler” is a defensive robot that can go over most of the obstacles in FRC Stronghold.

Competing There is the Blue and Red Alliance. Each Alliance in a match is composed of 3 teams each. Every match has different Alliances. Each team has 7 minutes to figure out a strategy for the match. During each match, our robot was mainly used defensively and used to knockout as many obstacles as it could.

Competing - Morgan Lincoln
“It was a risk, but it payed off because we WON that match!” -Driver Todd Jeffries “At the competition, it was fun and really LONG and I feel all the hard work paid off.” - Morgan Lincoln

Competition The arm that was on the robot had to be taken off because of complications with the rules, but we did NOT let that stop us. “Through all the blood, sweat, and tears, we survived and we succeeded.” - Meghan Bailey

Competition It is not all about competing. It is about having fun in the process. “Through the build and competition season, this picture shows us genuinely having FUN!” - Captain Ashlyn Fournier

In the end In the End, we won Highest Rookie Seed Award, and left 17th place out of 51 teams. We are proud of ourselves no matter what. “Our LUCKY Pig” - Jackie Landers
