1 Recruiting

2 Process Contact Periods:
Contact Period: Coach can go to the recruit’s home and visit with the recruit and his family/coaches. Evaluation Period: AKA the “visit” period, college coaches can visit the school, talk to coaches, and even watch practice, but cannot talk directly to the recruit. Quiet Period: When the recruits can visit the school, but the coaches can only talk to them while they are on campus. Dead Period: No face to face contact with the recruit. Coaches can make phone calls during recruits during all periods. Contact Periods Calendar

3 Process College Visits
Can have 5 visits during the CONTACT, VISIT, or QUIET periods. Need to have a cleared transcript and SAT score to the College prior to the visit (can be provided by Coach and/or Counselors at school)

4 Process Signing Day: National Signing Day is the 1st Wednesday in February, this year February 3rd.

5 Decision: To play or not to Play?
Considerations School Considerations: Regional Size Academic rigor and degrees Stopover or Bachelor’s Degree? (JUCO vs. 4 yr. school) Acceptance? Best interests for the future Player’s talent level Honest evaluation by coaches, college coaches, and yourself Scholarship Considerations: Only way to school? Full, partial, or walk-on Academic vs. Athletic Financial Situation: Current Future debt from borrowing

6 Marketing the Athlete Contacting the School Film
General interest forms Letters of interest Interest forms from High School coaches Film Highlight Film vs. Game Film Sending it out: “trolling” or “targeting”?

7 Marketing the Athlete Recruiting Services Different levels of service
General contact through use of technology “Go Between” for player and college program Be careful, and get references from other parents and coaches.

8 Communication High School Coaches College Coaches
Let them know where you are with playing, and when that changes, let them know! College Coaches Again, communication is vital. It lets both parties know where they are in the process, and it creates a positive impression on the coach.
