Placement Options for Preschoolers in Chesterfield County
Victoria Harris and Susan Head ECSE 672 – Preschool Internship 6/2/15

Head Start Preschool Head Start is a federal program that promotes the school readiness of children ages 3 to 5 from low- income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Head Start programs provide comprehensive services to enrolled children and their families, which include health, nutrition, social, and other services determined to be necessary by family needs assessments. Head Start services are designed to be responsive to each child and family's ethnic, cultural, and linguistic heritage. Ten percent of families may exceed the income eligibility requirement and ten percent of student enrollment must be available to students with special needs.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
The purpose of the legislation was to serve 4-year-old children who are at-risk for school failure and not presently receiving service from the Head Start program. Each locality coordinates resources to serve the greatest number of 4-year-old children.
4
Title 1 Preschool The program goal is to improve the teaching and learning of children in school with high poverty rates, and to provide learning opportunities that will allow students to meet challenging academic content and performance standards. Funded by Title 1 Part A for elementary and secondary education.

Early Childhood Special Education Preschool (Part B of IDEA)
In CCPS, children in the ECSE program go to school 2 to 4 times per week. Wednesday is used for home visits which is why ECSE students do not attend school on Wednesdays. For CCPS, the maximum is 8 students within the classroom instructed by a lead teacher and instructional assistant. With VPI and Title 1 there can be a part-time ECSE program because of Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy pullout.

Very accommodating and will adapt to the needs of the child Therapists Diet Educational plan Good News Free Will Baptist Church Preschool The director said that they are inclusive of special needs students to the extent they can be based on staffing and classroom ratios. She said in the past they have had children with autism and seizures. They are willing to work with families to meet the child's needs if they can. But because they are all tuition based they are somewhat limited. A personal aide would definitely help.
