Improving the use of our bands
Introduction

Survey In Landshut we decided to make a survey about the use of our frequencies above 148 MHz. Survey Mainly closed questions (“yes/no”, checkboxes,…) 24 countries responded (22 CEPT, 2 African, 0 Middle East and Eastern Europe) Only for CEPT we can give some conclusions. This survey is not made public by the EC/AC

Conclusions of the survey
On MHz Lots of activity There is a lot of congestion due to different (digital) modes and repeater shifts. Mainly due to national restrictions Between 1,2 GHz and 10 GHz Still some voice activity (also repeaters on 1,2GHz) Mainly used for (d)ATV and HAMnet Parts of 2,3GHZ and 3,5 GHz are forbidden in some countries Bands above 10 GHz Very rarely used…

Why we need to have this workshop?
If we want to retain the little-used bands, we need to show that the bands are used more densely. If there is no interest in using them, then to try to protect them would be a misuse of scarce IARU resource. So we have two choices – use or loose. If we want to keep the bands,IARU-R1 and MS need to think about how to improve acitivity on VHF & up Those bands are wanted by a lot of other users, who wants to pay a lot of money for it: IoT, 5G, Intelligent cars, … We need a commitment for IARU to defend our interests in those bands. But this need to be done by the member societies, by promoting the use by their members. Therefore we need to make a SWOT analysis and also understand what would encourage greater use
8
Now it is time to hear your point of view!
Do we want to fight to retain the µwave bands? What is the argument for amateur allocations on these frequencies? What actions will generate a lot more activity?
