2 Do Now Lesson’s purpose: To introduce theories of ancient migration to the Americans and consider how archaeologists use evidence to create and support their theories Migration: movement from one region/area to another Theory: a system of ideas intended to explain something based on general knowledge and principles Bering Land Bridge: a land bridge that emerged during the ice age when much of Earth’s water supply was frozen in glaciers; connected the continents of Asia and North America

3 Map Analysis Using the two maps in your packet (world map and map of the Bering Strait), work with your table partner to answer the following questions: What do these two maps show? Many scholars agree that the First Americans migrated to North America from Eurasia, the combined continental landmass of Europe and Asia. Working with your partner, use the maps to create and support two theories of how these ancient humans may have traveled from one location to the other.
