1 Social Media: Infographics and being a ‘Good Man’
Gr 11 Life Orientation project

2 Theoretical component
Identify the main concerns around prejudice and exclusion in our society today. Select the most important aspect (in your opinion) which needs to be addressed by society collectively. Justify your answer.  What should be done to address this issue?

3 Practical application
Design an infographic which could be distributed through social media, specifically through BBM and WhatsApp profile pictures. The purpose of the infographic would be to raise awareness of your chosen issue, and also to reinforce positive behaviour around this issue. Try to be specific, and ask yourself, ‘what would a Good Man do in a situation where a normal response would be prejudicial? How should a Good Man behave when faced with social situations that could either enforce stereotypes, or help to break them down?’

4 Contents: Equality Gender discrimination Racism Religion Stereotyping

5 Equality The fact of being equal in rights, status, advantages, etc.: racial/social/sexual equality

30 What, in your opinion, was the purpose of an Infographic task for the Gr 11s?
It was to address a flaw in society and to use creative thinking to show that these flaws, whether they are racial stereotypes, gender inequalities or cultural discrimination, are unnecessary, unjustifiable and unacceptable. The fact that we were given the task of creating something that could be distributed through social media, showed us how easy it is to address these problems and how easy it is to share this idea with our friends, family and even those that we do not know.

31 Describe your personal response to the task, and any insights you have come to in the process.
“Not all jocks are jerks” is a prejudice which we as sport-orientated males face on a continual basis. At the time I felt it to be very significant and specific to me, as I see it constantly. However, seeing other pupils’ infographics made me realize that the form of prejudice which I chose to expose and ridicule, was actually rather benign and insignificant. I have become more educated and faced a sort of reflection where someone in my position realizes how lucky he truly is.
