2 For hundreds of years books were written by hand

3 Gutenberg was the first of many printers who started printing books during the 1400s. They tried to make their lettering match the beautiful handwriting script used by monks in monasteries. Colour was added by hand after printing. SAMPLE SLIDE Random Slides From This PowerPoint Show

4 In 1476 William Caxton became the first person to bring a printing press to England. He set up his printer’s shop in Westminster, London. Many of the books that were printed in his print shop were religious books. One of these was called The Golden Legend and was all about the Saints.
