3. Select 3 of the media from your list (not pencil)

Select 3 of the media from your list (not pencil)
Using each media you will make some marks in 3 of the boxes of your 9 square grid. Use 3 horizontal squares for 1 media and then go to the next one.
Make a different mark in each box
Fill the box completely with that same mark.
Write the name of the media at the side of the row of boxes you have filled.

How do you make different marks with the same media?

5. Now draw another 3 square horizontal grid each measuring 3cm x 3cm.

Now draw another 3 square horizontal grid each measuring 3cm x 3cm.
Using your 2B pencil in different ways, create 3 different textures that fill the entire boxes.

6. Swap your sketchbook with another person who is on the same differentiation level as you.
3 minutes
Look at their media experiments work.
Using your personal judgement, assess this work using the criteria opposite.
Give a positive comment or some advice for improvement on the progression sheet in the back of their book.
Assessment Criteria:
Good control of each media (stayed inside the grids – neatly applied)
Creative use of the media (using it in 3 different, but successful, ways)

7. PREP.WORK Access the Art and Design department VLE page.
Under the YEAR 7 heading click on the ‘Mark Making and Colour Theory’ link.
Download the ‘Design Brief’ and either:
a) print it and stick it in your book or
b) adjust the fonts and colours on Word before printing it and sticking it in your book or
c) create your own decorative page with a heading and copy the information out neatly.
(merits will be given for high quality pages in options b or c)

8. 3 minutes
Turn to the back of your sketchbook and thinking about the learning objectives from the start of the lesson, tick each statement that you feel confident you have learnt. Now at the right-hand side, write down one specific thing that you have learnt today that you didn’t know before.
