Jesus took Peter and the brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. His appearance changed right before their eyes. His face shone like the sun. His clothes were filled with light.
Then the disciples realised that Moses and Elijah were also there in deep conversation with Jesus.
Peter spoke out, ‘Master, this is a great moment! What if I built three memorials here on the mountain – one for you, one for Moses, one for Elijah?’
While Peter was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and sounding from deep in the cloud a voice: ‘This is my Son, marked by my love, focus of my delight. Listen to him.’
When the disciples heard it, they were filled with awe and fell flat on their faces, scared to death. But Jesus came over and touched them, saying, ‘Don’t be afraid.’
When they opened their eyes and looked around, all they saw was Jesus, only Jesus.

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe and in the smallest of your creatures.
Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe, And to recognise that we are united with the whole of creation.
We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace.
