Based on our history, values, and practical needs: Choose an issue Research the issue Create a proposal (thesis) Support that proposal (evidence, stats, info, stories: ethos, pathos, logos) Participate in Senate committee debates Participate in a Senate Floor Debate

Foreign Policy Topic Research
Explore critical issues and problems around the world. Find 5+ that interest you and would likely interest others. Important! Related to U. S.! Urgent! Create a PPt with 5+ problems explained, 1-2 slides per problem. Include these: --title for problem --image or two of issue --citations sentence summary of issue that describes the issue and illustrates its importance to the U. S. and/or the world Foreign Policy Topic Research

View Others’ Projects View everyone’s project in your group (will display groups in a minute) For each, do this: Their name Topics they chose 2 sentences to explain each topic (summarize their 3-4-sentence intro) rating for the topic (out of 10) for being interesting and important Then view at least 3 other people’s topics. Repeat. You’ll view at least 7 people’s topics total.

Every second you have to convince others is precious, valuable, and irreplaceable.
Due to time constraints you will have only 30 seconds to influence. You will be on a committee. You will want your whole committee to support your solution. Due to time constraints you will have only 30 seconds to influence… that is not much time – so make sure to hit the main points (see next slide) and use your flyer as an additional prop! 30-Second Speech!

30-Second Speech! Contents of Speech (typed or by hand):
Thesis: arguable, specific, important solution. What will the U. S. do? How? (REQUIRED) Foreign Policy Goals: Important Effects on American National Security or Morality and/or Global Security Hard or Soft Power: What is best to use? What will be most effective to achieve your solution? Wilsonian – Realpolitik: How is your policy the right thing for the USA (morality)? How does your policy strengthen America and protect our interests? Overall: (REQUIRED) Quotes/Statistics/facts (evidence) – Use what is in your flyer? Analysis, connection to thesis (how does your proposal address the issue) 30-Second Speech!
