We will start at Please help yourselves to coffee. If you have any specific questions you would like answered today, then please write them on a post-it or piece of paper and put them on the table at the front of the room.

9.45 – PGCE and School Direct Introductory talks (Steph Laird and Pablo Mayorga) 10.30 – Introduction to Professional Studies (Sarah Leonard) 10.50 – Introduction to English (Alastair Daniel/Steph Laird) 11.10 – Coffee break 11.40 – Introduction to Maths (Lorraine Hartley) 12.00 – Introduction to Science (Jacqui Lewis) 12.20 – Final questions 12.30 – DBS checks (optional if agreed with the admissions team)

5 Meet the team Sarah Leonard – Head of Primary Initial Teacher Education – Steph Laird – Programme Convener, PGCE Core & School Direct Primary - Pablo Mayorga – Assistant Programme Convener - Group tutors & subject tutors.

11 What is the PGCE? Initial Teacher Education programme for primary teachers of children aged 3-11 years PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) with 60 Masters-level credits and awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) The programme is a teaching qualification which aims to produce teachers who meet the Teachers’ Standards and also an internationally recognised academic qualification

14 School-based/University-based training
School training starts Monday 2nd September – Wednesday 4th September University Induction days – Thursday 5th & Friday 6th September University training days – every Friday from – Partnership with university and schools – your alliance provides a complementary training programme University attendance is compulsory and your schools will be notified of absences.

Location: The Portrait room, Grove House, Froebel College, University of Roehampton, SW15 5PJ Time: 9-5pm You will be given a full timetable on the first day and meet your group. We look forward to seeing you then!

20 Primary PGCE assessed placements
Autumn term – based in host school until half term. Move to contrasting school placement - Block School Experience 1 - after half term for 7 weeks assessed placement. Spring and summer term – return to host school and commence Block School Experience 2 in March for 13 weeks assessed placement. Term dates: Beginning of September to July
