Types of technology 1. Artificial Insemination
A reproductive technology where sperm is collected, put into an tube then inserted into the female reproductive tract 2. In Vitro Fertilization Both the sperm and eggs are collected then joined in a petri dish in a lab Once a fertilization has occurred, the embryo is placed into the female’s uterus

More types 3. Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer
Egg cells are removed and combined with sperm but then immediately put back into the female’s fallopian tubes so fertilization can take place 4. Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection A single sperm cell is injected into an egg cell and the resulting zygote is inserted into the uterus

Impacts of society Helps infertile couples to have children but may have a slightly higher number of birth defects What should be done with leftover embryos? Frozen and used for stem cell and gene therapy research? Who owns the embryos? Unknown donors and children wanting to know their fathers Surrogacy and questions that arise as to who should raise the child
