December 4, 1929, in Coney Island to Mexican parents. As a child, he enjoyed drawing and role-playing imaginary scenes. He liked to pretend he was riding on an airplane around the world to faraway places. After finishing high school, he studied in Mexico for six months. George Ancona speaks more than five languages. "I enjoy meeting all kinds of people." "For me, a children's book is like taking a child for a walk and discovering something about our world."
