How do we assess the children?
Writing: We look at independent work completed as normal lessons in English and in topic lessons too. Reading: We assess them by listening to them read and asking them some questions to check understanding. This happens are part of normal reading lessons. They also complete 2 reading tests. Maths: We assess them by looking at independent work that they have completed as part of normal maths lessons. They also sit 2 maths tests. Science: We look at the work that they complete and the questions that they can answer as part of normal class teaching. E.g. Can they make observations? Can they suggest ideas for experiments? Can they make predictions for experiments?

Questions When do they sit the tests?
At any point in the next two weeks. When will I receive the assessments for my child? Your child’s assessments will be recorded on their end of Year 2 report. What happens if my child is ill? They will complete the tests when they return to school.

What can you do at home? Good night sleep every night!
On time to school and full attendance Reading: Daily reading and questioning Maths: Counting forwards, backwards to 100 and in 2s 5s and 10s. Counting in 10 from any number: 23,33,43 Using and counting money. Times tables and division facts. Writing: Any writing is good! Shopping lists! Letters or cards to parents! Anything they fancy!
