1 E-LEARNING PROJECT Klara Insulander Björk, SKC symposium,

2 BACKGROUND The SKC board decided to invest 3 MSEK in activities related to e-learning during the period The goal was three-fold: Increase e-learning competence level Encourage collaboration within education Procude e-learning material on nuclear technology A workshop was held at Chalmers with representatives from Chalmers, Uppsala University and KTH After this, a project plan was drafted, iterated and accepted by Chalmers and Uppsala University

3 PROJECT IDEA To produce course material at late high-school or early university level to inspire potential students to study nuclear technology To present a large range of nuclear technology theory and applications. To produce material in Swedish, since there is no lack of English language material To make the material useful for multiple purposes: For high-school teachers to use in their teaching As a university course Freely available recorded lectures on YouTube As material for a summer school etc. etc…. To involve several lecturers within all engaged universities to make sure e-learning competence is well distributed.

4 SUBJECT AREAS The course will include the following subject areas:
Fundamental nuclear science – Stephan Pomp, Uppsala University History of nuclear technology – Ane Håkansson, Uppsala University Radiation around us – Christian Ekberg, Chalmers The nuclear fuel cycle – Michael Österlund, Uppsala University Current nuclear energy systems – Christophe Demaziére, Chalmers Future nuclear energy systems – Klara Insulander Björk, Chalmers Nuclear measurement and detection techniques – Anders Nordlund, Chalmers Nuclear safeguards – Sophie Grape, Uppsala University Nuclear medicine – Emma Aneheim, University of Gothenburg

5 PROJECT PLAN 2017: Formulation and iteration of a project plan, decision on subject areas, work split, drafting of presentation material. : Draft presentation material ready for peer review. : Procurement of the recording and editing of video lectures (Språng). : Presentation material finalized. /05: Workshop with Språng on good video lecturing practice. : Recording of lectures. : Quizzes finalized. : Draft exercises and reading material ready. : Workshop with reference group to check the level of the material. : Editing of quizzes, exercises and reading material ready. /05: Marketing of the entire course material. HT 2019: The course material is used.

Management meetings every two months in the operative mangement board to facilitate coordination, common use of infrastructures and research cooperation. Communicate the relevant activities through internal and external newsletters and a web page. Coordination of common projects (for the moment e-learning). Establish international research collaborations (currently Australia, Argentina and UAE). Mapping of the existing relevant competences and need for national competence. Supporting SSM in their task to ensure adequate knowledge and competence in Sweden. Review of relevant research calls nationally and internationally and aid in consortium building. Organize workshops and conferences as well as aiding the parties’ participation in such activities.

12 NEXT STEPS Edited video lectures will be finalized before the end of 2018 Contact high-school teachers for setting up a reference group Find suitable fora for marketing the course material Gauge the interest for a summer school (financing needed) Gauge the interest for a ”nuclear crash-course” for nuclear industry employees Investigate the possibilities for a university level course
