3 Nucleotides Nucleotides are made of a 5-Carbon sugar, a nitrogen base, and a phosphate (PO4)

4 Types of Nucleic Acids RNA DNA

5 DNA structure DNA holds genetic information in cells.
DNA is a long chain of nitrogen base pairs that form a double helix. The nucleotides that pair to make a base in DNA is: Adenine and Thymine and Cytosine and Guanine.

6 Amino Acids Amino acids are used in every cell to build proteins necessary to survive.

7 Amino Acids - bonding together in long chains to form protein
Teacher Note: Use Mardi Gras beads to model the long chains.

8 Proteins Proteins are made from amino acids.
Proteins are used to build simple structures like cell membranes to complex structures like muscles. Proteins are made from amino acids.

9 Enzymes Enzymes (which are made from proteins) act as catalysts which help complex reactions and changes to happen. They are very helpful in breaking down substances in digestion.
