describe In this work of art I see The main positive space being the fallen general and the other 7 men around in sadness, while the negative space being the raging war behind them. The value is more towards a lighter tone than a darker style of value. I see a 7 men huddled around a dead man while I see hundreds of people fighting in the background. The texture is smooth feel with rounded edges and look soft.

Analyze The elements of value, color, and space are used to create a kind of slow motion death moment in the heart of a battle. The picture is asymmetrical with the main focus on the death of the general on the left while the right is filled with bystanders. The rhythm is a very slow to crate heartbeat slight scene. It uses variety of the faded colors and less detailed shapes of the background to create a scene where only one thing matters the death of the general

interpret The artist is trying to tell a sad gloomy story about a man’s death told by the positive space of the man being emphasized by the brighter colors and more texture out into him while the background being filled with faded colors and less detailed texture. There isn’t much meaning put into the story because their isn’t very much to learn from a person’s death. The mood is very sad from the dark clouds and slow rhythm to show this wasn’t a good scene but a bad one indeed.

Judge I believe the artist was technically successful. It uses the elements of space( the emphasis on the death),texture( putting more detailed texture in the positive space),Value ( the darker light value is put into the negative space to show that the negative space is not the focus and the lighter value of the positive space shows that was what the painting was made for.). The principles of rhythm are used to show this is a slow scene showed by the people standing dead still, but the army still fighting in the back, while the variety is used to show that more detailed styles of the elements are put into the positive spaces.
