4 December 5, 20012001 Maryland Technology Showcase Collaboration DPM 4 Educational Technology Outreach: Professional Development Provides High quality technology based, University supported professional development A large portfolio of classes developed in concert with –County specialists –University experts –Teachers in the field Graduate level credit given Courses can be taught in local schools on district equipment with district software, on campus or on-line Instructors and curriculum materials Flexible billing, registration, and scheduling Extensive evaluation component

12 December 5, 20012001 Maryland Technology Showcase Collaboration DPM 12 Goals 1.wearable technology to develop educational applications of Xybernauts wearable technology which yield a positive impact on PreK-16 education; 2.to understand the impact wearable technology can have on students and teachers as researchers and learners; 3.to understand, interpret and describe the behaviors and attitudes of teachers and students in an educational setting toward wearable technology applications; 4.to share best practices and lessons learned that lend themselves toward developing a more equitable educational environment through applications;

13 December 5, 20012001 Maryland Technology Showcase Collaboration DPM 13 Goals (continued) 5.to create support materials and in-service training opportunities for teachers to develop engagement activities that make use of wearable computer technology; 6.to formulate and evaluate new research methods for developing educational wearable technologies; and 7.to help in obtaining funding to continue development of educational applications and research for wearable technologies.

14 December 5, 20012001 Maryland Technology Showcase Collaboration DPM 14 Phase I Integrate wearable computers into ETOs professional development graduate courses Explore and Discover uses of wearable computers –Target the assistive technology population; Explore and discover uses through ETOs education design team, composed of researchers, pre-service teachers, administrators, participating teachers, and technology specialist trained to test new technologies; Target specific demographics via District partners

15 December 5, 20012001 Maryland Technology Showcase Collaboration DPM 15 University Provides a way to understand industry needs and wants –ties PD for educators with business –Educators pass information on to students who are the next generation of industry/business employees Teachers are excited to have the opportunity to add input into educational technology applications Invaluable to have teachers participation in action research
