Thursday, April 11, 2019 Common Core Standards: RL , RL , and SL Aim: How can we analyze the evolution of Rose Maxson and her American Dream in Act 2, Scenes 2 and 3 of August Wilson’s play, Fences? Do Now: Answer one of the following questions. 1.) How have women’s roles in society evolved (changed) since 1957? 2.) How has Rose Maxson’s character evolved in the play thus far? *Show any owed HW. Objective: Students will be able to analyze the evolution of Rose Maxson and her American Dream in Wilson’s play, Fences.

Thursday, April 11th, 2019 Aim: How can we analyze the evolution of Rose Maxson and her American Dream in Act 2, Scenes 2 and 3 of August Wilson’s play, Fences? Objective:: Students will be able to analyze the evolution of Rose Maxson and her American Dream in Wilson’s play, Fences. Agenda A.) Do Now: Turn and talk with your tablemates. Captains will prepare to share their tablemates’ answers with the whole class. B.) Discuss/Share: -Captains will share Do Now answers. C.) Read-Aloud/Analysis: Read aloud Act 2, Scenes 2-3. Each student needs to read aloud at least one role to earn class participation. Students can earn extra credit for additional roles read aloud. As we’re reading, we will take notes to support the upcoming T-Chart. Here are questions to answer: Why does the playwright August Wilson have Rose reveal that Alberta died? How does Troy react to Alberta’s death? Why does Rose agree to take care of Alberta’s child? What fence does Rose build between herself and Troy? D.) Work Period: Work on the T-Chart (due Monday) on Act 2, Scenes 1, 2 and 3 (pp ). Two quotes needed to support the symbolism of fences and two quotes needed to support the characters’ pursuits of the American Dream. Remember, you need SPA (statement, proof, and analysis) for each quote. E.) Reflections: What were your impressions of Act 2, Scenes 2 and 3? What can you predict will happen next?
