E-STAR: Eaton’s Global Recognition Program

Why Use E-STAR to Recognize Others? Because It’s Powerful!
Companies that recognize their employees outperform those that don’t recognize employees by as much as 40%. Recognition can account for up to 50% of a company’s improvement in employee engagement. 67% of employees consider praise or recognition from a direct manager to be an extremely effective motivator. Before we discuss the details of the E-STAR program, let’s begin by discussing the power of recognition and what effective recognition looks like. Why does Eaton believe in driving a culture of recognition? Because saying thank you and celebrating our successes truly makes a difference. Research shows that recognition motivates us, increases our willingness to help each other, and even increases team productivity. Recognizing someone by simply saying “thank you” has been proven to increase the likelihood of a person’s willingness to help again on a future task by 100%. Plus, companies with good recognition behaviors outperform their peers in the marketplace. That makes recognition a win-win for everyone. The significant benefits of recognizing others is clear. It only takes a minute, but makes a world of difference. Hearing “thank you” doubles the likelihood that an employee will help again in the future.

Recognition Best Practices
Occurs soon after the event deserving of recognition Happens frequently Reinforces behavior tied to our company Philosophy Celebrates employee contributions in a genuine and meaningful way Delivers excitement – never expected or anticipated For E-STAR to be successful, it’s important to understand how to use recognition effectively. We define recognition as the genuine acknowledgement of employees’ contributions or achievements related to actions that reflect the Eaton Philosophy. Here you’ll see some best practices you should consider when using E-STAR. Making recognition timely, genuine, and meaningful reinforces the importance of that employee’s behavior and is even more motivational. And while technology is an important aspect of our global recognition program, it’s important to remember the personal aspects of recognition. Make an effort to thank and congratulate employees personally, face-to-face when possible, in addition to placing an award in the E-STAR system. The effort you put into acknowledging the contribution is as important as the actual award.

It’s All About The Praise!
Dear Jose, Thank you for demonstrating Accountability by sharing your feedback during yesterday’s team planning session. You found a way to express your concerns about our project timelines in an honest and respectful way, even though it wasn’t what we wanted to hear! Your interest in ensuring our project success is much appreciated! Recognition is an experience, not just an award. In other words, it is the praise that has the greatest impact for our employees. Perhaps the most important thing to remember when using E-STAR is to make recognition meaningful to the individual! Write thoughtful, specific messages when sending an E-STAR Call out the Eaton Philosophy that was demonstrated Focus on “how” the contribution was made, not just “what” was achieved When appropriate, make recognition public by using E-STAR’s Awards Newsfeed. You’ll learn more about this feature later in this training. The goal of any recognition experience is to clearly communicate to the recipient how the recipient’s contributions demonstrate the Eaton Philosophy and make a difference to Eaton.

Saying “Thank You” Makes a Difference!
E-STAR Program Goals We know that employees are more engaged and productive when they’re recognized for their efforts. Our goals for E-STAR are simple – to drive Eaton’s culture of recognition by providing all employees the opportunity to celebrate the contributions, achievements and successes of others. E-STAR allows us to do just that and directly links to our Eaton Philosophy. Embracing a recognition culture is as easy as saying “Thank You.” It’s important employees feel empowered to formally say Thank You and recognize others through one easy-to-use program.
