Warm up #1 Emma had $1 this morning and asked her mom for another. Instead, her mom said she would give Emma $2 the next day if she still had the dollar she was holding. Plus, she would continue to give Emma $2 each day as long as she saved it all. Emma agreed to the deal and began to wonder how much money she might have at the end of the week. Emma graphed the equation y = 2x + 1 to figure it out. If today, Day 0, is Monday and x is in days, how much could Emma have on Wednesday? How much on Friday? $5 $9

Warm up #2 Combine Like Terms to Simplify Each Expression 1. 2. 3.

Combining Functions

1. Simplify. Hint: This just means you add the two functions together. What is 2x x – 7?

2. Simplify. Hint: This means you subtract the two functions. Don’t forget to distribute the subtraction!

3. Simplify. Hint: This means you multiply the two functions. The easiest way is to multiply g(x) by the two parts of f(x) by using the distributive property.

4. Simplify.

CHALLENGE. (I dare you.)

CHALLENGE. (I dare you.)

Composition of Functions:
Hint: Find the value of g(2) and then insert that into f(x) to find the final answer. This type problem will have a “number” answer. 2306

If g(x) = 2x + 3 and h(x) = -5x + 6, what is g(h(-2))?
