Up/Down quarks make up the majority of matter we see everyday.
Others form highly unstable particles due to their relatively immense weight. Quarks have “color charge” in addition to electric charge which determines strong force attraction.

Hadrons Baryons Mesons All hadrons with 3 quarks.
Protons: UUD Neutrons: UDD Mesons Contain one quark and one anti-quark. Pions: UD Kaons gave the name to the strange quark; they have an unusually long life for mesons and were the first particle found to contain the strange quark.
