1 The Cell Cycle A Journey from

2

3 What’s happening to the cells?!?!?!?!?!?!!?

4 Cell growth and division (pg 2)
Cells have size restriction There are 2 types of cell division : Mitosis and Meiosis Mitosis = cell division that creates two daughter cells each having the same number and kind of chromosomes as the parent nucleus, diploid Meiosis = cell division that creates four daughter cells each with half the number of chromosomes of the parent cell, makes gametes and plant spores. haploid

5 What does a cell need to divide?
Requirements for Division (pg2) Macromolecules Growth Factors = protein or hormone that stimulates growth of a cell vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)

6 Interphase (pg2) Cells are growing, replicating DNA, doing cell functions Just hanging out Has 3 parts G1 = the cell grows S = synthesizes DNA G2= growth for mitosis

7 Mitosis aka M-Phase (pg2)
Has 4 phases Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase mitosis video

8 Prophase (pg2) Spindles start forming at centrosome
DNA forms chromosomes Attaching at centromere Chromatids form Spindles start forming at centrosome Nuclear membrane starts dissolving

9 Metaphase (pg2) Chromosomes line up in middle of cell
Nuclear membrane completely dissolves Spindles connect to centromeres Centrioles move to different sides

10 Anaphase (pg 2) Sister chromatids pulled apart by spindles
Chromosomes start moving to end of cells

11 Telophase (pg2) Chromosomes reach opposite ends of the cell
Nuclear membrane forms around chromosomes

12 Cytokinesis (pg2) The final step!!!!!!
The cytoplasm divides and pinches off Have 2 daughter cells
