1 Chemistry Vocabulary 4 Feb 21 2012
Synthesis – a new substance is made during a chemical reaction. (NaCl is made from combining Na and Cl gas) Decomposition – a substance is broken apart during a chemical reaction. (Using electricity water can be broken into gases of Hydrogen and Oxygen)

2 Chemistry Vocabulary 4 Feb 22, 2012
Single Displacement – when one element is replaced by another during a reaction. Double Displacement – when elements within a compound switch their molecular bond during a reaction.

3 Chemistry Vocabulary 4 Feb 23, 2012
Electrical charge- the attraction of one molecule with another (positive + negative attract) Chemical Formula -A chemical formula or molecular formula is a way of expressing information about the atoms that constitute a particular chemical compound. (NaCl is the chemical formula for salt.)

4 Chemistry Vocabulary 4 Feb 24, 2012
Electron Pathways (Energy levels, Orbits or Shells)- the location of the electrons around the nucleus. Follows the rows or periods of the Periodic Table. (2,8,8,18,etc.) Valence – the number of electrons in the outer most electron pathway.( Follows the columns of the Periodic table : +1 Alkali Metals, +2 Alkaline Earth Metal, + 3 Boron family, +/- 4 Carbon family, - 3 Nitrogen Family, -1 Halogens, 0 Nobel (or inert) Gases
