Recall principles of the kinetic theory. The large distance between particles allows them to be compressed. Gases can be used to absorb a considerable amount of energy. Ex: air bags

3 Four variables can describe a gas:
Pressure Volume Temperature Moles

4 Section 12-2 Factors affecting Gas Pressure
Amount of Gas -More gas=more collisions=more pressure Double the gas =????? the pressure. Double!! Aerosol cans rely on high pressure in the can and low outside.

5 Volume You can decrease the volume and that will increase the pressure. OR if you increase the volume the pressure will decrease.

6 Temperature Raising the temperature of an enclosed gas raises the pressure. This is due to the increased speed of the particles.
