Starting Points Betsy - Image from Learning for Sustainability Scotland Most people might think of sustainability as a job for estates, reducing carbon emissions within the buildings, getting everyone to use bikes and public transport to reduce their carbon footprint. But actually sustainability is a job for everyone, a whole institutional approach. Colleges are hear to teach students skills and equip them with knowledge for work, they are hear as a support the local community and the skills that will be needed in the future.

The Current Sustainability Context
Rapidly changing socio-economic and environmental context. Impacts of the Anthropocene. Changing nature of the world raises questions: Can we educate for a stable socio-economic environment as in the past? Urgent action is needed to address global and planetary issues. Changes in funding, recession, BREXIT, What is the role and purpose of Further Education? Academia? Preparation for the workplace? What is meaningful teaching and learning in the context of these changes?
