3. What is International Women’s Day?
International Women's Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. International Women's Day (IWD) has occurred for well over a century, with the first​ ​March 8​ ​IWD gathering supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland. Prior to this the​ Socialist Party of America, United Kingdom's Suffragists and Suffragettes, and further groups campaigned for women equality. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country, group or organisation specific.​ Make IWD your day! - everyday!

In 1999 Time named Pankhurst as one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century, stating "she shaped an idea of women for our time; she shook society into a new pattern from which there could be no going back

Using the BalanceforBetter selfie cards, take individual or group selfies to post on social media to make a pledge.
Research an inspirational woman from your vocational field and put together a presentation or display about her. We would love to display some of these in the LRC or the HUB!
Write a paragraph about a woman who has inspired you – this can be an historical character like Emmeline Pankhurst, or someone more recent – like Ester Ledecka who won Gold medals in the Snowboard dual slalom and Skiing Giant Slalom at the winter Olympics last year.
