5. The AHPCC study: What difference do chaplains make? Key Roles:
Each day hospice has ‘champion’, in charge of administering the study.
Each champion has direct support from Iain Telfer, on site and online.
Participants read info leaflets and consent to participate if interested.
Participants complete baseline questionnaire.
Chaplain visits all patients ‘as usual’ BUT:
Chaplain records number and depth of visits for participants.
Participants complete ‘after’ questionnaire
Champion enters participant and chaplain data into online database.

7. The chaplain’s role
The chaplain sees all patients as usual, but also keeps record of visits and depth of contact in each visit.

8. The Patient’s role
Consider whether to participate in the study or not. If not, nothing else happens.
If so: they see the chaplain as much as they need to/want to. They read the participant information sheet, sign the consent form and complete the ‘baseline’ questionnaire.
After seven weeks they complete the ‘after’ questionnaire

9. The Champion’s role Gives study info to new patients. Takes consent.
Ensures baseline questionnaire is completed
Ensures chaplain is recording everything they should!
Ensures follow up questionnaire is completed
Enters all data into anonymised online database

10. Iain’s role To help you in every way! Support with study protocol
Support with any questions at all
