1 Farmers also use fertilizer to add N to the soil.
Nitrogen Cycle N is an element that naturally cycles through ecosystems. It is used to make proteins. Although N gas makes up 79% of the air, most living things can not use the gaseous form. It must be converted. Bacteria that live on the roots of some plants convert gaseous N to a form plants can use. Farmers also use fertilizer to add N to the soil.
