Remember the actual amount of water vapor in air remains the same unless we change it.
If air cools it has less space, making the relative humidity increase.
When the air reaches a relative humidity of 100% (saturated) the water vapor will turn into liquid water.

When you reach the dew point condensation starts and water vapor is removed from the air.
If the temperature continues to drop the water vapor is reduces so the dew point drops with the temperature.

When the dew point is below the freezing point of water the water vapor goes directly to a solid:
