2 Essential # 4 Indicator # 2 Current AVID CSS Level of Use: Level 1
Essential # 4 Indicator # 2 Current AVID CSS Level of Use: Level 1. What CSS Level would you like to achieve? Level 3 Critical Question: What can we do to make sure that AVID Elective students are getting “C”s or higher in their core classes? Objective: At least 85% of AVID students received grades of “C” or better on the previous formal grading period report card in each of their core academic classes. Assessment: Calculate all grades using TeacherEase at least every two weeks to monitor and demonstrate that all/AVID students are maintaining “C”s or higher for all core classes. Moreover, 7th and 8th grade teachers will have common formative assessments based on similar grading scales. Also, a calculated weighting of assessments and homework will be used to ensure similar grading practices. 2

3 Action Item A: Use mobile technologies to be in touch with students 24/7. Teach students how to analyze their TeacherEase reports to self-reflect and set new goals for the upcoming week to maintain a “C” average or higher in all core classes. Also, blogs will be used to extend student understanding outside the classroom and provide open and constant dialogue related to content being learned to improve their grades. Topics to address: Expenditures: Pay for TeacherEase (online grading software) accounts. Teachers not open to using blogs as a learning tool. Staff to be involved: AVID Site Team Potential Obstacles: Technology issues such as access at home. Students need to have access to analyze their own grades by having accounts so they can be held accountable to accomplish their own goals. Responsibilities: All 7th and 8th grade staff. Timeline: Ongoing Action Item B: Common formative standards based assessments aligned with similar grading methodologies. Topics to address: Equal weighting for assessments and homework for all core content subjects for all 7th and 8th grade teachers. Expenditures: None. Staff to be involved: 7th and 8th grade teachers Potential Obstacles: Pedagogical mindframes to keep past routines in place and not allow new changes. Responsibilities: All 7-8 grade teachers to agree on the same expectations. Timeline: First week of school and then ongoing throughout the year. 3

4 Action Item C: Have students do an error analysis for common formative assessments to reflect related to problems missed to ensure mastery of all standards and to provide whole group instruction related to re-teaching standards scored below an 80% as a class. Topics to address: 8th Grade ELA teachers to create online standards based formative assessments for all reading tests and benchmark tests using OARS online software. Expenditures: Planning time Staff to be involved: 8th grade ELA teachers. Potential Obstacles: Lack of preparation time. Responsibilities: 8th Grade ELA team Timeline: ongoing
